Hi all,
I know I made a post a while back on this topic involving gay marriage in Maine, but and how we now allow it, but now we are having a vote to try and repeal the law. It's pretty crazy cause I see the advertisements on tv everyday, and everyone keeps trying to bring schools in the situation, and it's not even about that at all.
Whenever I see something like that, I just want to run over to them and say something.
Being a true bi sexual I am all for voting no on question 1, which will allow gay marriage to stay in Maine.
Unfortunately, I am not old enough to vote, so I really hope lots of supporters realize how important this voting is to lots of people.
It's time for us to be the ally's and make the change!
Jess

Good, I hope it gets repealed. Government needs to get out of the marriage business, and make marriage a strictly religious saramony. Then any two people who are consenting adults can get "married" if they can find a church that will do the saramony. If the people that got married want the tax breaks that go along with being married they should have to go down to the local court house and fill out some forms. They also should not need to get "married" for tax breaks if they are living together and are willing to fill out paperwork for a civil union.

Can anybody post two lists, a list of religions/denominations that will marry people of the same gender, and a list of religions/denominations that will not? The more complete the better.

What aobut polygomy and animal husbandry and such. I mean, if gay marriages are allowed, why not these things, they do not, presumably, hurt anyone, and I don't really see that much problem with it apart from threats such as "hey my goat, I love you, but if you do not want to have sex tonight I will make a sweater of you and cook you too".
I am of the opinion that if it works for people, that's fine with me and government should not get involved, although I don't know how child support be split among a lot of people involved in a marriage.

To wildebrew's post:
Animal marriage is not the same as gay marriage, simply because marriage is strictly between two conscenting parties. Now, last time I checked, animals do not have the ability to agree or disagree.
In regards to polygamy, I am not sure. I personally don't believe in it, but I don't feel as strongly about that as I do for gay marriage.
In my opinion, people of the homosexual or lesbian persuasion have just as legitimate rights to marriage and all of the benefits of marriage as those of the heterosexual persuasion. Sure, many can argue that marriage is and should remain a religious institution. However, for the United States at least, hopes of letting marriage be governed solely by religion should be abandoned now. The government sees regulation of marriages as a new priority, and unless there is a huge shift in focus, which most likely won't happen any time soon, the government will continue to regulate marriages of all types.
Personally, I am a friend to quite a few people of the gay and lesbian orientation, and I fully support gay marriage. We are having the same issue in California, many are pushing to repeal Proposition 8, though we do not yet have a set date on which to vote for the repealing of said proposition.
I solemnly hope Maine can continue to allow gay marriage.
Also, I agree with the original poster, the topic of gay marriage should not be pushed onto the schools. Unfortunately, this is a clever use of the rhetorical device pathos, which plays on emotion. This device, in my opinion, is the strongest of the three devices of rhetoric.
